We at Beauty and the Beast try to acquaint ourselves with your pet and believe it is important for your pet to become acclimated to the environment without being rushed. We believe your pet needs some "down time" or breaks between the stages of grooming and find that animals that have been rushed straight through this process especially by stressed out groomers become very stressed and agitated themselves. We pride ourselves our fuzzy kids are happy to see their aunties for their "spa day" and know right where to go and what to do.
Practice practice practice! It's all about how your pet is handled and the training of positive repetition. That is another reason, besides your animal's good health, to bring them regularly. Gaining your animal's trust is so important.
For the most part we can not compete with you for your dog's attention. If you are in the shop while your dog is on the table or arrive early while we are still grooming your dog it is very dangerous. We are working with scissors and other sharp instruments and distracting us or your dog is not a good idea.
Never. Sedating your animal is only done under your veterinarian's advice and care. When absolutely necessary we do work on animals that have been sedated before coming in. We always consider the animals safety and comfort and there are those who just need to have the edge taken off to allow them to relax and better learn to trust us. We also have to consider our own safety.
We strongly believe in making the grooming process as positive as possible and do not believe in torturing your precious companion by tedious and painful de-matting. We will do what we can and de-matting is not impossible to do, it just that it can damage a dog/cats emotional well being and scar them as a painful and negative experience for future grooming. It destroys their trust in us. We love seeing your puppies fluffy and cute and making you happy but not at their expense. When a haircut is temporary it is inhumane to make them suffer when it is simply not their fault they have not been combed out properly. We will be happy to educate you on the proper care at home and give you our recommendations of the care for long flowing/fluffy coats.
The kennel provide a level of comfort for your pets. We are safety conscious at Beauty and the Beast. It protects them from other dogs, getting loose, and believe that it is very important that your pet learns to be comfortable in a kennel especially during a non-emergency situation. Having a community faced with frantic evacuations we believe it is so important for every animal to have kenneling experience and training under calmer circumstances.
We are skilled professionals who happen to love our jobs. We are dedicated to serving you to the best of our ability. Even though it is a labor of love, we can not afford to do this as a hobby or for minimum wage. The work is extremely physically demanding, and sometimes dangerous. We hate hearing "horror stories" that are so unfortunate for everyone. It takes years of experience and compassion to give you and your loved ones the best quality of care. We have overhead/business expenses to consider and appreciate those clients that are considerate of all these factors.
